MATARIKI

Task one:What is Matariki

Matariki is a time to gather with families and friends reflect on the past celebrate the present, and plan for future and Matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. It rises in the mid-winter and for many Maori, it heralds the start of a new year. Maori literally means the eyes of god (Mata-ariki) or little eyes (Mata-riki) and this picture shows what matariki stars is.

Task two:Maori music for a modern audience

                                                  QUESTION

What style of music is this\ who performs it\ what inspired them to write it?

-This music is a Mario style music and it was perform by Mario people and they names but I can't tell them cause it's too much and also last year they knocked out Justin Bieber off  iTunes NZ music charts, and the creators of the hit song Maimoatia want to do it again and as a writer they were interested  in the different responses these soldier to the environment within New Zealand that time.and they also say that it is a song to celebrates children. It is a father's message to his or her child, encouraging to her or his to dream big and pursue any path her heart desires, and remind them that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to so long as they have the support and love of their parents.

What did you like about the music?

I like this music cause it's so good and great and I don't know what the lyrics are but I don't care I just listen to the music and I can feel something inside me something that's inspiring me and I think that they are the best and I have listen to many of their song and the song I like is the AOTEAROA by Stan Walker and the music is also lovely.

What did you like about the video?

What I like about the video is the way they dance and how they make their face  it's funny not really that funny but it's funny to me and their voice is so  unbelievable .

Find out what the song is about, can you find aw translation of some of the lyrics?

AOTEAROA by Stan Walker.

No matter if your near or far

We come from land of god

No matter were you belong

We fight for your freedom

                                   VERSE1

I am the mountain you are the sea flowing towards me. You are the river that runs through me I am her she is me. Created from dust and sand. Born to lead this land. (Eyeaaayeyaahh)

                                          VERSE2

Where we come from we were meant to be strong. Our legacy will carry on and if a piece of home resonates in your soul. Your journey will take you where you belong.

The heritage of this land is deep. We are it's legacy. I am her warrior I fight for thee. We have the victory. Born from blood and tears I am strong than fear. (Eyeaaayeyaahh)

                                                  VERSE3

We strive to move to our destiny. We practise more than what we preach. And if a piece of home resonates in your soul. Your journey will take you were you belong.

E Ihowa atua, o nga iwi matou ra Ata whakarongona Me aroha noa Kia hua ko te pai kia tau to atawhai Manaakitia mai, AOTEAROA...........

Nice work. You've written some great stuff. I like your mix of useful text and image when talking about matariki. Why is the Māori concept of new year different from the European idea? What determines the European new year?
