PASSION PROJECT (COMMUNITY SPORTS)

19/11/18

1. What is your passion project? (re-state, it may have changed and it helps to keep your focus)

  • My group's project is Sports Tournament ( OUTDOOR VOLLEYBALL)
2. What have you learned/done so far?

  • Accurate measurement for poles (girls height) ask for equipment from Miss Simpson (talk), create an outline for the day, and create a speech about the day just to explain to the student how we are going to run sports on that day. We also ask Miss Tozer to talk to the caretaker for the poles.
  •  I have learned how to improve threats that come in our way.
3. How does this help you achieve your passion project?

  • We can work ahead without worrying about threats that come our way.
  • We what we need and finishing this keeps us on track
4. What is your next step?

  • We plan on getting teams sorted if everyone already signs up.
  • We will get our equipment sorted.
5. What evidence do you have that this is something you need to do?

Mon Week 6
By the end of today, we will have our program planned out.
  1. Miss Tozer will talk to the caretaker for the poles
  2. Accurate measurement for poles (girls height)

Passion Project

15/11/18
What am I learning? How do I know what I have learned?

  • Today I have how to do the SWOT analysis and I have also learned how to communicate with other people and also how to achieve something that you have not before.
Who is in my group? A photo of your brainstorms and idea so far.
  • These are the people in our group is Adi, Anneleise, Janell. Lenora and Ofa.

What is a SWOT?
  • A SWOT analysis is studying and organizing ideas into a different category by strength in the group the weakness in the group, the opportunities in the group and last but not the least the threats we have in the groups.

SWOT Analysis
Strengths:
  • We have people who know and play the chosen sport
  • We are good at working with kids/have coached before.
  • We have experienced professional training

Weakness:
  • We may not be able to work with certain kids because of behavior.
  • Lack of involvement.
  • Lack of interest from the kids.
Opportunities:
  • We can give them sports tips.
  • We can teach them to improve/ to Vs other students to test their skills.
  • No cost available
  • This can also help us improve our own skills when we are questioned about our way of teaching a certain sport.

Threats:
  • Injuries that cannot be prevented/ constant injuries.
  • Social skills(too shy to talk)
  • Fail to prevent injuries that can be prevented.

Problem-solving:
Weakness
We can try and make it for fun and enjoyable for young people.
We can make it challenging and competitive.

Threats:
We can put them in small groups and get to know each other first.
We can never prevent injuries but we can help with working in a safer environment during the time we have with them, and we can also provide them with the first-aid kit

Skill application:
Strengths:
We will look at the level of skill that the students have and use that to teach them what they need to improve on.
The skills we learned will be put to good use when we work with the students.T

Opportunities:
We can contact the Hornby primary school for permission to work with the primary students.
We can also work with other groups that have similar ideas to work with.

Action:

Sum up what has come out of your SWOT analysis (you will be planning your steps shortly, you may want to be showing you are thinking about this here too)

MATH (reflectio)

24/10/2018

RATIOS
In the past few weeks, we have been working on ratio, which was our new topic for the starting of term four. We have been told to create a blog about the ratio. We also had a presentation about ratio and in our presentation, and we had to include the following question in the presentation. What is ratio? Where do you use them? Ask a math question.
We were given math ratio question in class to answer and figure it out and we also work together in a group to find the answer and learn more about the ratio.

What is ratio
A ratio is used to compare values. They tell us how much of one thing there is compare to another. For example, A bowl of fruit has two peaches and ten apples. The ratio of peaches and apples is 2:10.

Where do you use them (ratio)
this is where you used ratio or this are the place you used ratio.

  1. grocery
  2. shopping
  3. getting from place to place
  4. liquidity ratios
Math question?
If Ben read 10 pages in 15 minutes, how long would it take him to read another 40 pages

1. What questions do you still have about ______Ratio______________?

How can we make it easier for ourselves to understand Ratios very quickly and fast.

2. What were some of your strength and weakness in this unit? What is your plan to improve in your areas of weakness?
Well to be honest with this question I did not have any strength in Ratios I was so weak in Ratios because I did not understand it very easy and it took an hour to think before doing my work and to understand what I'm doing.
To improve my work on Ratios I want to try harder and do my best to understand Ratios more and I want to have less talk on the topic and think about the examples and how am I going to understand it.

MAKEY MAKEY (GAME CONTROLLER)

INTRODUCTION:

In the last term and the past few weeks, we were told in DTE to make a project, and the project was called MAKEY MAKEY. We were asked to group yourself into groups to create our own MAKEY MAKEY. We were given an example of how to make the Makey Makey and how it works, and our group decided to make a controller to use it for our MAKEY MAKEY. The reason why we used the controller because we were going to used it to play a game called Mario.

DLO (Digital Learning Object)

This picture shows the idea of our work and this is how our MAKEY MAKEY is going to look like.

REFLECTIONWorking in this project was very fun and amazing but then we struggled to get idea and think about how to do that and this, but then we just put that thought aside and we work hard even though that it was a little hard but we work together to come up with different ideas, and then we put them together to create our MAKEY MAKEY. We did not only struggle but we did also learn so many things working in this project not only that but we get to enjoy it and have fun. We also finished our project and to be honest it went very well, we had many things that we did not include in our project because we did not have enough time to finish our project and include those things, but then we were so happy that we get to achieve something in the end. If we had time I think that our Makey Makey can be more fun and we can try to make it look good. This picture shows the Makey Makey we made and how it works.

THIS IS THE MAKEY MAKEY WE MADE IT IS A CAME CONTROLLER...

  • Well, we need help with our work just a little bit of help because some of the things that we are working on is a little bit confusing, but Miss Handley can help us. Today we had to restart everything because Miss Handley wants us to do something that is more challenging that is the thing that did not go well today.
29/10/2018.
1. Is there anything you need help with? Who can help you? What didn't went well today?
  • Our group needs help because we are stuck with our presentation and we could not upload any picture to our slides, but I think that Miss Handly can help us with that.
 2. How will you improve the next lesson?
  • work together and try to dig deeper into the topic.
28/11/18
1. What went well today?

  • Today we finished our presentation and fix everything that we weren't able to do and we also had fun working together as a group. We also had the chance to present to the class everything we did and we were happy with what we did and what we were able to achieve.
  • Everything went well with our research but the most difficult thing that happens with our research was that we find it hard to get every single information like we couldn't get what the name of the tsunami was but then we ended up getting it. The hardest thing was that we had to restart our work because the teacher told us that it would be much better if we can challenge ourself into something that's more better.

TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN.

RESEARCH - Research author John Marsden. Who was he and why was he inspired to write Tomorrow, When the War Began. What other books has he written? Present your information in a poster, slideshow or video.

JOHN MARSDEN: He is an Australian writer, teacher, and principal and he was the one that writesTOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN.  He was detailing the invasion and occupation of Australia by a foreign country. JOHN MARSDEN was inspired to write TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN while watching an ANZAC DAY march. A large number of teenagers were in attendance, paying respect to the sacrifices made by the past generation. He wondered how they might react if they were placed in the same position that their grandparents were at their age. The novels are related from the first person perspective by Ellie Linton, a teenage girl, who is part of a small band of teenagers waging a guerrilla war on the enemy soldiers in the region around their fictional hometown of   Wirrawee and he has written many books which are THE DEAD OF THE NIGHT, SO MUCH TO TELL YOU, THE THIRD DAY, THE FOREST, THE OTHER SIDE OF DAWN, THE NIGHT IS FOR HUNTING, DARKNESS BE MY FRIEND, BURNING FOR REVENGE, and many other books.

VOCABULARY - Find the meanings of the following words, write the meaning using your own words. Manslaughter, Aggravated, Guerillas, Interject, Smug, Vicious, Emphatically, Scuffle, Sideswipe, Elated

Manslaughter: the crime of killing a human begin without aforethought, or in circumstances not amounting to murder, for example, killing a person on purpose.

VOLCANOES

1.  what are the types of volcanoes?
  • Cinder Cone Volcanoes
  • Composite Volcanoes
  • Shield Volcanoes
  • Lava Domes Volcanes

2.  What are the top 10 most active volcanoes in the world?

  • Eyjafjallajokull, Iceland

  • Mount Vesuvius, Italy

  • Sakurajima, Japan

  • Mount Merapi, Indonesia

  • Mount Nyiragongo, D.R of Congo

  • Ulawan, Papua New Guinea

  • Taal Volcanoes, Philippines

  •  Mauna Loa, Hawaii

  • Galeras, Colombia

  • Santa Maria, Guatemala

3. What are the 5 biggest ever eruptions?

1. Mount Tambora: This is one of Indonesia's hundred-plus active volcanoes. It's eruption in 1815 rocked the world with after-effects. It caused disease and harmed the growth of crops in the surrounding regions, and caused climate change as far away as North America. It killed over 90,000 people.

2. Mount Krakatoa: Another of Indonesia's volcanoes, its eruption in 1883, killed over 35,000 people mainly due to resulting tsunamis. There was a series of extremely violent explosions over a few months and the biggest could be heard more than 2,000 miles away in Australia.

3. Mount Pelee: The worst volcanoes disaster of the 20th century is considered to be the eruption of Mount Pelee in 1902. It was on the Island of Martinique in the Caribbean and it killed 30,000 people.

4. Mount Ruiz: Mount Ruzi is in Columbia, South America, had two destructive eruptions in 1985. A mixture of mud, ash, and water raced down and the volcanoes slope through river channels. The Mud almost totally buried a town 30 miles from the volcanoes, killing around 25,000 people

5. Mount Vesuvius: In Italy AD 79, this volcano devastated the nearby cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Thousands of people thought to have died and the remain of many people was preserved by the ash. Since then, it has erupted several times, mostly in 1944.

4. What supervolcanoes could eruptions in the future?

  • It is said that Yellowstone is most likely to be the one that might erupt in the future because it is one of the biggest volcanoes in the world and it can kill 87,000 people immediately. If the supervolcano underneath Yellowstone ever had another massive eruption, it could spew ash for thousands of miles across the United States, damaging building, smothering crops, and shutting down the power plants.

5. What happens during the eruption?

  • When magma reaches the earth's surface it is called lava. It may pour out in gentle streams called lava flows or erupt violently into the air. Rocks ripped loose from the inside of the volcano or torn apart by the gas may be shot into the air with the lava. These rocks blown out of a volcano are called pyroclastic rocks.

6. Does the sun have any effects on volcanism?

  • In the climate model, both the reduced output from the sun and the increased amount of volcanic aerosols (fine particles which reflect sunlight away from the Earth and which are injected into the stratosphere by volcanic eruptions) contribute a sizeable amount to the Northern Hemisphere cooling seen in temperature reconstructions. Their relative importance depends upon uncertain estimates of exactly how much each changed relative to a century later.

MY EXPERIENCE ON GROWING NEW ZEALAND INNOVATION CHALLENGE.

INTRODUCTION:

Hi, everyone, it's Ofa here and in the past few weeks we have been working on a project which was GROWING NEW ZEALAND INNOVATION CHALLENGE and we were asked to work in a group of four or three so we can work together to create what we were told to do, and we were given each topic to choose what we want to do and our group and our group choose CAREERS AND CAPABILITY. The problem was the primary sector offers too many opportunities in the field of agri-science and business industry, however, they still fail to attract more people in the field of agri-science and business industry. Our challenge was to create a solution of how to persuade youth to be interested in the field of agri-science and business.

DLO (Digital Learning Object)

Reflection:

Being in this project, we made too many flaws and hardships. The struggles have begun from doing our prototype. We are thinking so deep into our problem but that just made us be out of the topic. We exerted too much effort thinking about what should we do here, what should we do about this…. but what we all have to do is a simple but important idea. We might struggle with doing this but we managed to finish it and we are satisfied with what we have done. This experience was not just a normal research, it is challenging but most important is we learned something from it and we enjoyed. Overall, this experience stressed us out yet we enjoyed it a lot.

London Life in 1850s

29.08.18
In Social Studies we were asked to do a creative writing about you being in London in 1850s and we had to write our story according to the following information.

  • You are living in London, it is the 1850s and you hated it. You see posters promoting a new life in a distant land called New Zealand. There are job opportunities and a promise of a new start.
  • Your story needs to include, your life in London and why you hated it.
  • The journey on the ship and what's it like.
  • What life is like when you arrive. Click the image to get an idea.
  • Go and create a story and make your PUSH and PULL FACTOR CLEAR.
And this is my story.

                             LONDON LIFE IN THE 1850s….
My family has gone through a hard life in London (1850s), life is miserable and raising my family was not very easy. We couldn’t afford anything because we did not have enough money and the people were very poor. If their families won’t work they would not eat anything or they could not afford to travel anywhere, and they might not survive, my sister’s and brothers did not attend school either. We had to work very hard for our family to survive and finding a job was a very difficult thing but we had to try our best just for our family.

Life was not that easy because we had to live in a very small place which was noisy and crowded with lots of people, some people did not have any privacy and it was hard to get your own house cause housing was very expensive the worst thing was we did not have any electricity we had to use candles only. The air was not very nice for breathing. We had to work long hours in coal mines and factories in order for my family to survive. One day I was looking through a poster and a post caught my eye. Promoting a new life far away from London, away from all the distress so I decide to travel to New Zealand.

I know it was going to be hard because I knew I was going to a far place with so many different people and different cultures, but I want to do it for my family. We waited for the boat to arrive when the boat arrived we say goodbye to our families and friends then get on the boat ready to travel to New Zealand. The sea journey was halfway around the world it took four to five months but depending on the wind and weather. The sailing ships were overcrowded and uncomfortable, with little fresh food available. Illnesses spread quickly and some people, especially children, died at the sea.

The poorer passengers cooked their meals on wood stoves, with no stop for fresh meat. We had to sleep in an area that was crowded and cramped with only curtains for privacy. Passengers filled in the long hours by cooking, cleaning, washing, reading and playing cards. Older children attended school. In the evenings there were dances and musical entertainment. When we arrived, many were disappointed to see thick forests instead of a green field, but we were happy that we have reach paradise. We had to live in the forest and we had to build our own home, some of the people went back to London and some stayed for good knowing that they had to work hard so that they can bring their family to New Zealand.
                                    THE END.

TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN (CHAPTER THIRTEEN)

24.08.18

1. All the teenagers have a specific role to play in their group. Describe the roles each teenager play?

  • Ellie: she was like the leader of the group just like Homer but the difference between the two of the two of them was that Ellie is was more of like coming out with a brilliant idea and Homer was like the action man in the group.

  •  The general said that America would find themselves in the longest, costliest and bloodiest war in history. Because of the imbalance within the Region.

3. Why is Australia invaded?

  • cause of the imbalance of the land cause they had too much and not enough for other countries that's why they were invaded by other countries.

4.  A reader can infer many things from the snippet of news heard over Corrie's radio. Which country or countries are likely to have invaded Australia?

TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN CAHPTER TWELVE

21.08.18
1. They say, teenagers can sleep all day. Do you agree? Does Ellie still see herself as a typical teenager?

  • yes, it is, cause it's kinda related to a lifestyle which she could be related to.

2.  Ellie's dream at the beginning of the chapter is rather nonsensical, as dreams are won't be. Is there any meaning to it? Try and explain what Ellie's subconscious could be thinking about. Why is her dad cooking for the whole town? Why did Father Cronin ignore Ellie's greeting? Why Corrie 8 years old again? Why were they sailing off a boat? Why was Lee undressing?

  • Her dad cooking for the village may represent that her dad is taking care of the people that may be locked up with him.
Father Cronin ignored her because she did something sinful.
They sailed off on the boat away from all that's happening

*Maybe Ellie is thinking about the times she was young and only understood so little. Maybe she mistook her village with family and Father Cronin was just her imagination. She is remembering when she was able to do things without worry. Her dream was a build up for her to know her feelings for Lee which is why he was in her dream undressed.

3.  Why it is so terrible that Chris falls asleep while on the sentry duty? How does Ellie react? Why do you think she reacts this way? How does she feel about her reaction later?

  • * They don't know when someone comes to the show like one of the soldiers, then they will be in trouble. She reacted by screaming and getting angry at Chris. She reacted this way because she worries about her friends and everyone there. She felt bad since she said a lot of bad things to him which can make him feel bad.

4. Back in hell, Ellie's dream is far more ominous? Explain why is Ellie is dreaming of her fears?

  • *Since she actually felt peace at heart there was still something that could happen if they don't do anything about the soldiers and the invaders.

TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN
The war is here, is on!
They've come to arrogate our land.
They've come to destroy us.

We will fight, I will fight.
I fear no evil for I am brave to endure the bad situation.

I see their ammunition pointing straight to us,
Ready to shoot, but again we will fight to overcome their power, tomorrow and the war has begun.

Chapter five.

1. What does Corrie’s choice in career say about her character?

  • She Cares for everyone and she wants to do good things for other people so she is the kind of character that is kind and nice.

2. The group’s ability to avoid arguing with each other is rare- do you think that there would have been more drama if you and your friends went bush for a week?

  • I don't think so, because we may be busy exploring the place and experience many new things instead of having a fight or argument or any drama.

3. Why do you think Ellie and Lee feel uneasy just before their return to Wirrawee from the Bush?
  • cause they can feel that something is not right and they have been feeling this way since the day that the planes were flying at night while they were sleeping.
4. What do you predict will await the group back home, why do you think this?
  • they are going to find so many dead animals and no one at home, the reason why I think this is because they have been in the bush for five days and they did not know anything or what is going on in their homes.

CHAPTER SIX

  • Lee

3. What is Ellie’s reaction to this person’s caution? Why do you think she reacts this way?
  • cause he was making connections too fast and Ellie was overthinking everything.

  • they were having fun and enjoying their camp but when they came back they too many things to think about and too many questions to ask.

5. If you were in this situation, would you test the radio or not? Give reasons for your thinking.
  • yes, I would test the radio cause I want to know what's going on and it may make me think of what to do next.

6. Do you think the way the teenagers reacted to the realization that Australia may have been invaded or at war was realistic? Why/why not.
  • yes, cause no one could be seen everything was quiet and the power was out for the whole day.

7. What possible reasons exist that could spark war or invasion of Australia?
  • The people not being around and the power was cut off for the whole the day and the dead animals.
