VOCABULARY
Find the meanings of the following words, write the meaning using your own words: Reverential, Distinguish, Violated, Scrounge, Astonished, Consolation, Gallantry, Stern, Begrudging, Crusade.
1. Reverential:
- a person that feels reverential towards God. for example, when you go to church and you sit there quite and being respectful is called being reverential.
2. Distinguish:
- someone that recognize or treat (someone or something) different or manage to discern. for example, your old enough to distinguish between fact and fantasy.
3. Violated:
- brake or fail to comply with a rule or formal agreement. for example, someone that acts fraud can violate both civil and criminal.
4. Scrounge:
- seek to obtain (something, typically food or money) at the expenses or through the generosity of others or by stealth. For example, I manage to scrounge enough money for a bus ticket.
5. Astonished:
- greatly surprised or impressed or amazed for example he was astonished at the change in him.
6. Consolation:
- The comfort that is received by a person after a loss or disappointed for example there was a consolation in knowing that others were worse off.
7. Gallantry:
- polite attention or respect is given by men to women, for example, no young men offer to carry this burden for her, such as gallantry is out of fashion.
8. Stern:
- ( of a person or their manner) serious and unrelenting, especially in the assertion of authority and exercise of discipline, for example, a smile transformed his stern face.
9. Begrudging:
- envy (someone) the possession or enjoyment of something, for example, she begrudges Martin his affluence.
10. Crusade:
- a vigorous campaign for political, social, or religious change, for example, a crusade against crime.
